Has your business continued to grow since promoting or has it been a bumpy road? Either way is perfectly normal. What specific challenges are you facing and what is your favorite part of being a director?

it has continued to grow, but it has not been a totally smooth ride either. The adrenaline rush quickly faded and has been replaced by the realization that it may be harder to motivate people than I originally thought. Of course, that could be a character flaw in me! ;)I'm booking, cooking, and signing hoping to find the two, three, or 4 consultants who have the same work ethics as me!:D
I know I'm not the only new director on here, where is everyone else?
Do I still count as new? Leggy and I both promoted in Sep.
For me, it's been great! I know being retired military gives me an edge on understanding the task of motivating all different types of people with different reasons for being in this business. But it can still be challenging! Since I promoted, my team has grown by 6 consultants and I now have a Future Director. I'm getting good feedback and that really is useful! Whether positive or negative!
I'm more in love with this company than ever and my hubby is FINALLY 110% supportive!

I figure I'm still a newbie until I've been a director for a year. :)
I agree with Amy that at first it's was exciting, but now it's more about learning how to best embrace everything that goes into being a successful director. Being retired military (like Debi) definitely helps in some areas.
My biggest challenge is being consistently there for my team. Most of my consultants are either 6 time zones or 6 states away. They are a fabulous group, and I miss actually getting to see them . The phone is my biggest asset for coaching. (I just added my first team member here in Pennsylvannia, so that it exciting.)

I am so exceited, but also freaked out. I have my 5 and now I feel major pressure for 5 more...and then 5 more. I know I can do it, but today I feel overwhelmed. :(

So I promoted on October 1st and the very next day 2 of my consultants (that were SUPPOSED to be submitting something on September 30th) are now inactive already. I do have another new recruit that should be qualifying by the end of the month.
So here is my goal/question: If I can't get my new recruit to qualify AND get one of my inactive consultants to submit $200 this month, does that mean I don't get any overrides?
I have more recruit leads so I know I am not going to lose directorship already (thank goodness for the grace period), but basically I am LOSING money this month if I don't have all 5 active correct?

** Ellen, you will not receive Director overrides. You will get FD overrides. Ask me how I know?!!!
As a new director I am a bit more stressed now than before. My sales are doing good (for me), but my team is dysfunctional. Right now I need every single one of them to submit something or they will all be inactive!! I have a major need to recruit at least 4 people this month. I haven't recruited since June!!! It has been a nice ride! I love all of the Director perks, but I don't know if I can keep up with this! I am so glad I have NDA next month.

Excellent thread. To those new directors...keep your chin up and keep your eye on the big picture. I am in my 4th year as a director and it can be challenging at times but it is do-able!
Have any of you ever lost weight? Your so good a most of your meals and just when you don't think you can eat another raw carrot or salad, you walk by a mirror and check your fine stuff out!!!
The same thing goes for directorship. One year I had some real personal challenges with the health of my parents but I looked back at where I was a year ago and the realization hit me that progress was made!!
Please know that you alone can not motivate a person. You are not responsible for someone having a negative attitude and having their business fade. I have a person on my team that is 1 recruit away from being a director. 2 years ago, she had the dream, but wasn't in a place to take the action. It took some time and she even thought of dropping out, but once she got the determination she needed (within herself) she is on fire!
All of us directors know your frustrations (trust me!!!) but hang right in there. My team today probably could be bigger if I quit my day job, but I can't. My team is about 25 to 30, I have 2 FD's. One is so close to becoming a Director and I think once my other FD has her 4th baby, we may be able to get her to director too!!!
Slow but steady wins the race!!!;)

Ann, I think I would be proud as all get-out if I could say I worked a full-time job and have 25-30 peeps on my team! That is excellent!
Please do share how you think you have managed to GET & KEEP that many consultants on your team!!!!

Ann I love the comparison you used with the weight loss, it's so true! Ann really is a great roll model and she's been a fabulous hospitality Director for some of my team members as well!!!
I have a team member who's goal it is to promote to Director by December. She's recruited two this month and is 1 away from her 5. However, since she just recruited all of these people in the past two months, they (all but one) need to qualify to make this happen. What I'm suggesting to her is that she keep her own business going as well. She's focussing so much on Directorship and the recruiting aspect that she's not doing as many shows herself and her sales are down. Right now she's a Future Director but she's not getting any overrides because her personal sales are under $1250. Focus on yourself first (think about it, the more people in front of the more recruit leads you'll find too), then you team, and try to find a balance in your business. That's truely what's going to keep you going! Plus, you're team will respond well to leadership by example, something I myself have lacked in. I have such highs and lows that my goals are to be consistent so my team will stay consistent as well...

Pure freeking luck!!! I am including all of my recruits recruits on there so they are not all my first line.
I am flattered by Darcy's words but her recruit was one awesome lady. Her recruit, Carrie, sort of rocked some of my team. Carrie recruited 3 people right off the bat. Unfortunately, her hubby came home and she dropped out but she was cooking on all four burners with children and a deployed husband. It made others realize that they too can do this business.
My team has taken much initiative on their own and keep in contact with each other. I am blessed that they don't hold too much against me for not being there all of the time. They pick up the phone and call one another. My news letters have been non exisitant lately but when I do them, I have everyone's name, address and e-mail updated. I don't force too much on them and try to keep the meetings fun but always informative.
I try to stay in contact, but I am far from a text book leader, I am ashamed to say, but I do what I can when I can. I am just blessed.

Just did a count:
Personal first line: 21 (7 inactive)
(If I were an AD) second line: 12 (5 inactive)
and one that would be a third line but she is inactive.
So about 21 are active out of 34. I also have recruited 2 this year that did nothing so they are not even on the radar.

Yep...you were right Sandra. I got my first check today after promoting and sure enough...only 1% overrides. I need to either recruit more asap OR get one of my recruits to re-activate. This is going to be a great sales month for me and I WANT my overrides!!!
(okay...temper tantrum over...)
I DID receive the $50 bonus though so that was still nice. I have some little things to buy for my team so that will help with recognition.

I have been a director 1 1/2 weeks, so far so good. My goal is to recruit 5 more by the end of the year- no luck on that yet- but still working on it- I have a full November, so hopefully that will work out. I am disappointed that my status has not been updated on CC yet.

I promoted in May of this year with 8 people on my team. I am down to 6. I was having a hard time and putting a lot of stress on myself. I realize that the pressure I was putting on myself to recruit was making me not enjoy PC anymore. I love what I do. So I had to regroup.
I have had quite a few interviews that did not pan out, one person even signed the contract but still hasn't gotten her 4 shows. I I want to grow my team but I need to make it about them and not me. I have completely taken the focus off myself. I don't want to lose my passion for this business. My director has been awesome and positive. I love my small cluster, I now have two hospitality consultants which adds more fun to the meetings. We are doing well.
I have a full November and I am looking forward to it.
I need to learn more so I have been listening to tons of cd's and just taking everything in.
